Mindfulness Monday – Pain

mushroom

“Do not resist your pain.
Surrender to the grief, despair, fear, loneliness,
or whatever form the suffering takes.
Witness it without labelling it mentally.
Allow it to be there.
Embrace it.
Then see how the miracle of surrender transmutes
deep suffering into deep peace.”

~ Eckhart Tolle

“With mindfulness we have the choice of
responding with compassion to the pain
of craving, anger, fear and confusion.
Without mindfulness we are stuck in the
reactive pattern and identification that
will inevitably create more suffering and confusion.”

~ Noah Levine

    These quotes really resonated with me. Mentally fighting pain makes it worse just as tensing all your muscles when you get a shot does. Getting past our knee-jerk reactions in all areas frees us to being able to choose how we react. Choice is a precious thing. Have a marvelous day! 🙂

  2. Your beautiful photo made me smile. We had quite a bit of rain Sunday nite and one of Tink’s fans at his Cheers bar, a wild mushroom hunter, was ecstatic. Part of Rif’s income comes from a big-name chef in town who buys the results of his forays. Apparently it takes a good rain to kick off the mushroom season.

    Praying that you are feeling better – and not just because your attitude toward it all has been affected by these quotes.

    1. The mushroom farmer sounds delightful. They do like it damp.
      I’m feeling better, the restlessness isn’t all gone, but it’s better. I’ll try and write about it soon. I’ll do an update post soon. ☺
      I always search for quotes that have to do with my life that week, so yes they are affected.
      I’m afraid the new med might be messing with my cognitive function. I feel really stupid and I get distracted by the least little thing, then forget what I was doing. I know people do that, but not this much. So, still struggling a little.
      Thank you for caring.

      1. Happens with ADD a lot. You can work around cognitive deficits, but movement disorders are too distracting – and painful. If you can’t have both, pick the medication that gives you the best physical ability.

        Here’s a tip:
        ~~~~~~~~~
        Grab a notebook you don’t normally use much (I used to use a stenopad when I had to do this). If you don’t have something fairly unique, use something colorful to ID one that otherwise looks like the others. You want to be able to pick it out from its surroundings easily – so don’t go subtle here. And do your best to keep it near you. You might have to tie a pen or pencil to it, because you are likely to set it down, not recall where and not be able to make a quick note.
        This will be your interruption log.
        Write down what you were doing when you were distracted off task. Keep adding to it, even if you have to chunk things into parts. Cross things off when they’re done. It also makes you feel better to see that you ARE accomplishing at least a few things, even when all you recall is chronic spinning.
        No kidding, it not only helps but it builds (or strengthens) memory’s brain-pathways. Don’t judge yourself when you don’t remember – the stress will make it harder.
        Try it! It worked for me and worked for my clients.
        Rif doesn’t “farm” mushrooms, btw – he forages. He has photos of some real beauties he’s come across “in the wild” – and the chef’s door is always open for him – and he most certainly IS delightful. A real character — looks like Gandolf, beard and all.
        So happy to read that you are feeling a bit better!!
        1. Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll try.
          It’s hard when I’m just talking with Stuart and suddenly forget what we were talking about. That’s just freaky.
          A mushrooms forager is cool. Sounds like a character.
          Didn’t know you had forest near you.
          Oh, I am being gentle with myself. I know it’s not really me, it’s the meds.
          I want the ideal. A drug that regulates my moods, and.doesnt cause side effects. Toouch to ask I guess.
          xo. ♡
