Mindfulness Quotes

Mindfulness practice has helped me get through some of the roughest patches of my life.  I haven’t been practicing as much as I want and would like to resume, I thought a good way to start would be to post a few of my favorite quotes on mindfulness.  I hope you enjoy them too.  (all photos were taken either by me or Stuart)

“Mindfulness is simply being aware of what is happening right now without wishing it were different;

enjoying the pleasant without holding on when it changes (which it will);

being with the unpleasant without fearing it will always be this way (which it won’t).” ~James Baraz

“In the end, just three things matter:

How well we have lived.

How well we have loved.

How well we have learned to let go” ~Jack Kornfield

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” ~Dalai Lama

“Realize that this very body, with its aches and its pleasures,

is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, fully alive.” – Pema Chodron

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

If you want to be happy, practice compassion.” ~Dalai Lama

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough.

Each moment is all we need, not more.” ~ Mother Teresa

** One reason I haven’t been keeping up my mindfulness practice like I used to is that the depression side of my Bipolar Disorder has been taking over my desire to do many things.  I started seeing a new psychiatrist on Monday.  It was a very in-depth appointment.  I took a lot of psychiatric tests before I saw him.  They mainly showed that I have a bit of a hard time concentrating.  Two of them weren’t really fair because they are exactly like a “game” on Luminostity that I play a lot, if I hadn’t been playing that for a while I would never have been able to do as well on those tests.  We discussed my past treatments, what’s going on, all kinds of stuff.  He is adjusting some of my medications, and referring me to a therapist he thinks would be good for me to see.  I will go back in a month.  I’m feeling better just knowing that I am much more comfortable with my care provider and think this is a very positive move.

  2. Thank you Rita. I’m glad you like it. and Stuart will be happy you like his photos too. 🙂 Half of them are his and half are mine. I have to say, I think the more beautiful photos are his. He doesn’t take many but when he does they can be exquisite.
    Life has just handed me a lot the past couple of years. And I must say, I don’t blog as much when I’m having good days…I’m too busy having the good day. 🙂

  3. Wonderful post Wendy. The photos are gorgeous (I love the road runner, Beep Beep!) and the quotes well chosen. Good luck with your new mental health team. Hope they can get at the depression side of your bipolar. I understand how devastating that can be.

    1. Haha, taleweaver, the roadrunner was on my porch in Palm Springs. A lot of people there don’t like them because they eat all the lizards and the lizards eat the bugs. Of course if they didn’t eat them, theN the folks would be upset that there were too many lizards. Ha.
      Anyway, I understood the compassion there, most people wouldn’t. A lot of people wanted to kill them, I loved them.

      They have coyotes there too, they hate them too, they can be scary, they will eat small dogs..ect. if there were no roadrunner I bet they’d be attaching a lot more domestic animals. People took away their land, the don’t have enough natural food sources.

      Oh, I got started didn’t i?

      I’m glad you like the post. ttys. xo

      1. I understand. It’s like the bears here. More bears in suburbanized areas, means larger bear hunt. Guess what fellas, we moved into the bears’ neighbourhood, they didn’t move into ours!
        Rant coming. Will stop.

  4. I pinned one of your images and quotes to my Mind Matters Pinterest board (which links here automatically). I hope you see a bit of a bump in traffic as a result.

    Your post is primarily uplifting, but I can personally relate to how pushing through depression can be like trying to jog through Jello – so much effort that even a little bit of action wears us out and makes us wonder, “What’s the use?” I hope the meds adjustment and therapy referral will help more than just a little bit.

    Love to you, my friend —

  5. I have been practicing mindfulness but also haven’t been as much as I want to lately but quotes like these make me think more about it throughout the day. Always focusing on the present moment and fully focusing on what I am doing at that moment. Knowing that everything changes but not holding on to the past or worrying about what is to come is something I believe will help people with their own peace of mind. Just be happy in this very moment. 🙂
