Summary of Stuff about my Site for the Year … and WordPress This button.

I was looking at my Stats page, and found some interesting things.

The search term that lead people to my blog most often is, not surprisingly, Meniere’s Disease, but a funny thing…the term “applesauce” or “apple sauce” brought in 61 viewers.  Today I had 2 viewers find me when they searched for “funny treehouse”  I’m sure these people were disappointed.

I’ve had 14,311 views…with 1,069 published comments which is about half as many Spam comments that were caught and never published.  (some of these were hilarious!  I should share some one day.)

This will be my 211th post.

It says my busiest day was Oct. 22, 2011 with 110 views.  I thought it was funny since, I did not have a new post that day.

This month I had over 1000 more views than I did in February.  (that’s a good sign, I guess)

I have 44 followers through WordPress, or email subscribers.  (I don’t know how to find out if people are following through something else.)  I know some people really strive for more and more readers.  I just want readers who will get something from my blog.  Learn a bit about certain illnesses, get a little support, perhaps find a friend….that makes blogging worth it for me, not the number of followers I have.

Did you know if you use WordPress – people can RE-POST your Post without your permission!

Wordpress This is a button, that has this logo and the word This behind it...beware of it.

Now about something I found out today that I don’t like.  The WordPress This Button.  If you have Share buttons at the bottom of your posts so people can share a link to your post on Twitter, ect…  Wordpress has added this little button that looks like the WordPress “W” and the word “This” after it.  This allows people to Repost your Post on their WordPress blog without your permission.  I just had my Dark Days…post reposted on a weightloss blog, does that  make any sense?  And I have no power to have them remove it.  I tried to contact WordPress support but they are closed until the 2nd.

You can change the setting for this on your Dashboard, under Settings – Sharing.  I changed it so this button does not appear on my blog any longer.

Would this bother you?  Or is it just me?

I have a whole list of things I want to accomplish in 2012 – I’ll probably share them with you tomorrow.

Happy New Years to all!!  Cheers!

  1. Happy New Year to YOU!! I found a few of my blogs reposted in different sites but it did say my blog’s name. It’s something that I’m not too worried about, I have way more important things to worry about than that. That said, I don’t like it and don’t condone it. Right now I don’t even have the energy to try and fix it but I should!!
Wishing you a happy and Healthy New Year! love, Laurie

  2. I look at it this way–I figure whatever I put on my not-private blog I had better be ready for anyone in the whole wide world to read…now or ten years from now. That includes people who will laugh at me, make fun of me, knew me in first grade, old lovers, ex-friends, former bosses, old professors, my mailman, cleaning lady, relatives I don’t actually talk to, you name it. Just goes with the territory. I know that most people have the common courtesy to ask before they reprint something, but some won’t. I put stories and poems online and people could steal them. I suppose I should be flattered if they thought they were good enough to steal, but I do have proof they are mine…and I doubt anybody is going to make a fortune off of them–LOL! It’s got to feel strange to have someone reprint your blog post without your permission. How did you even find out?

I guess I agree with Laurie…more important things to worry about. You don’t have anything to be ashamed of. Stand behind your words. :):)

    1. I wouldn’t mind if someone reprinted my posts on a relevant site. But a weight losss site? That’s weird, I looked at the blog it was posted on, and EVERY post was a repost. strange. I simply don’t think my post it relevant there, and they should have asked.

Rita – I got a notice from WordPress, and the notice was also sent to my Spam box.

I’m ok with my words being out there. Kind of obvious by the way I blog. But I think we should be aware that it’s not just out there on our own sites. Frankly I didn’t like that the WordPress This button appeared and they didn’t ask if I wanted it there.

I wouldn’t mind the button, if I could say yes or no about where it is reposted.

At least they did give me credit.

And yeah, I have better things to worry about. But at least if I’m harping on this, I’m not thinking about the other crap. : )

      Happy Day w

    1. yes, I think it’s strange, that “funny treehouse” brought someone to my blog. I’ve mentioned a tree house once, remembering special places…and never said it was funny. lol w

    Hi Wendy
I enjoyed my summary as well but my search topics were clearly more related than some of yours…. Applesauce? Too funny! I think one of my largest searches was on gymnastics banquets. I think I only had one minor point on that one though so that was surprising 🙂
Looking forward to your posts in 2012! 🙂

  5. I looked over my stats, and this is just off the top of my head, but I think that one of the most searched for blogs is one I wrote about going on a low histamine diet. Which either folks thought they were getting something else by the title of the blog entry, or there is a lot of interest in low histamine diets, and I really should find out more myself about them!

I’ll have take another look at my year-end round up, and thanks for the info re the W. I use creative commons, and watermark my name on photos I take and publish, but the reblogging is something (whether it’s simple like through the W, or by other methods) bothers me a bit. I don’t like being taken out of context, or my stuff showing up somewhere I won’t feel comfortable having it appear.

I try and always remember to ask permission before I create a link to, or mention, someone else’s blog or blog entry. I do forget sometimes, but at least, even when I’ve lifted parts of it, I think I’ve remembered to give the source, or say I didn’t come up with the words, the concept, the idea myself. Don’t think I’ve ever completely reposted somebody’s blog — I think I’d better go check!

    1. I still think it was weird to have the blog post reposted…especially on that site. I noticed, every post on that site was a repost! What the heck did my post have to do with weight loss? Uh…nothing! I think if W is going to allow people to do that, then the person with the blog should be allowed to say yes or no to it.

I’m not a very private person, and don’t care if I’m quoted…I will say the repost did give a link to my blog and everything, I just thought it was strange to use it where is was used. I feel like it was a spammer trying to get me to authorize them to comment on my blog.

I use creative commons too, and have a watermark for my photos…but I often forget to put it on them. : )

you know, on a different day this re-post thing may not have bothered me, but on that day it did….a lot. but I’m over it now.

thank you for all the well wishes. I’ll have to look into the low histamine diet. curious. w
